THERE ISN’T A SINGLE LIE IN THIS STORY (2020)
Eight channel sound installation
Dates to be announced…
The tenth instalment of SONIC SPACE features an eight channel sound installation by the Korean-American, Baltimore based artist Bonnie Jones.
“There isn’t a single lie in this story” is inspired by the American psychologist Diana Deutsch’s research and experiments with sonic illusions, that has revealed differences in environmental factors like how the language we grew up speaking, as well as physical differences such as whether we are left or right handed alter our perception of what we hear.
Departing from these findings “There isn’t a single lie in this story” inverts the expectation of how we should (or could) hear the same piece, and highlights how each individual- based on their position in the room and their unique physical and subjective makeup – will hear a slightly different composition.
By emphasizing these differences the piece opens up a unique way of listening together. Nils Bloch Sørensen.
